Eye Examinations
An annual comprehensive eye health and vision examination is
your best insurance policy to maintain a lifetime of clear vision and healthy
eyes. Let’s review what is involved in a typical annual comprehensive eye
examination.
During your comprehensive eye examination, your Azman Eye Care Specialists
doctor will assess the health and function of your eyes and perform various
tests of your vision. We recommend a yearly examination as a wise investment in
the protection of your eyesight. As part of your examination, your visual acuity
(the sharpness of your vision) will be measured and a test known as a refraction
is conducted to determine your eyeglass prescription.
Tests are performed to determine your focusing ability at near, and will measure
how your eyes work together as well as their ability to change focus between far
and near.
 |
Your examination will include a comprehensive
evaluation of your eye health to detect diseases such as
glaucoma,
cataracts,
diabetic retinopathy,
detached retina and optic nerve abnormalities. The ocular health
evaluation is comprised of measurement of internal eye pressure as
well as a thorough examination of the internal and external
structures of the eye to detect the presence of eye disease. |
The doctor will also inspect the inner structures of your
eyes, including the retina and optic nerve. You may be most familiar with
dilating eye drops, which cause the iris to open wide, giving the doctor a good
view of the internal structures of the eye. The effects of the dilating drops
usually begin to subside after a few hours; however, it is wise to bring good
sunglasses to help you see in bright sunlight following a dilated eye exam.
While your eyes are dilated, close work or reading may be difficult, and bright
sunlight may be annoying.
After performing these tests your doctor will discuss your results, explain your
prescription and give you a better understanding of your overall eye health.
Options such as glasses, contact lenses, vision therapy, eye medications, or eye
surgery will be presented.
Your doctor will determine if you need to wear corrective lenses. To understand
your need for corrective lenses, you need to understand how your eyes work.
The Doctors and Staff of Azman Eye care Specialists strive to exceed your
expectations with the quality of our professional care, services and vision
related products we may provide for you.
